Vyankatesh Digambar Madgulkar(5 Apr 1927 - 27 September 2001) was one of the most popular Marathi authors of his time. He became well-known primarily for his practical writings about town living in a part of southeast Maharashtra known as Maandesh, arranged in a period of 15 to 20 decades before and after Independence. He had been often known as Tatya (“old man”, or “grand older man” in Marathi) by his fans, friends and household.

Madgulkar had been blessed in the village of Madgul in Sangli Region of Maharashtra. His father has been in the work of the authorities of the Aundh princely state. His sibling has been the popular poet H. M. Madgulkar.
